There are a ton of martial arts out there to choose from. Many of them can be functional, but if you have to pick a single martial art to train in, it should be Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Ego check, It's a humbling feeling for anyone with an ego to be submitted by someone smaller and weaker. Everyone needs a reality check once and a while.
2. Stress relief
After an hour of training, it's hard to get stressed about little things. If someone cuts you off in traffic on the way home, it's okay. I just spent an hour defending chokes from monsters trying to smash me and survived.

3. Problem Solving
This is problem-solving at the highest level. You're learning how to eliminate mistakes that lead to you tapping out from a submission. Not only are you trying to save your arm from breaking, but you are also doing this under incredible stress. The process of this over time will make anyone an Expert Problem Solver.

4.Confidence
When you are sparring with people from all walks of life that bring different attributes such as size, speed, strength, flexibility, and cardio for days. You begin to realize how to leverage different attributes to benefit you in a live environment. This puts your confidence in perspective when you apply techniques and they work on everyone.

5. Deterrence
A common byproduct of grappling can sometimes cause a cauliflower ear. No one in their right mind should ignore the all telling sign of the bad@ss.

6. Weight loss
If you've ever held a Brazilian jiu-jitsu gi, you know that it is heavy and durable. the Internet has a variety of estimates for jiu-jitsu’s calorie burn from 600 - 1000 depending on the intensity of the class. When you combine, the uniform with the class exercise, weight loss is inevitable.
7.Family
There is a bond that comes along with trusting the person you train with. Knowing that your training partner is going to stop when you tap is critical! My training partners are doing everything possible to choke or joint lock me. When it's all over, we smile, shake hands, and ask how they did it.

8. Self-defense
At the end of the day, you learn how to effectively defend yourself against people your size and bigger. The is no amount of money that can be placed on this life-changing skill.
